When Jesus went to the Cross, your name was written on His heart.

Let this sink in for a minute: If you were the only person in the world to accept Jesus Christ as Savior-the only one out of the billions who have lived-Jesus would still have submitted Himself to the humiliation of the Cross. Why? And why, when God created humans, did He give them-us-free will? Adam and Eve could choose complete obedience with its' obvious rewards in the Garden, or they could choose disobedience, and with it rebellion and destruction. Why give them-us-that choice?

What if Jesus asks you to be completely unimportant and insignificant? What if He chooses to use you as a conduit to set someone else up to complete His work? What if He piles glory and honor on somebody half as faithful to a relationship with Him as you are? Can you take it?

Monday, February 21, 2011 • Randy Kilgore • Forgiveness
"They're never going to be able to forgive me, are they?"
--The man who years earlier murdered a neighbor in a drunken stupor;
--a recovering alcoholic whose family refuses to believe "this is the time I really mean to change";
--a daughter whose last words to her father were venomous and hateful, spoken only hours before a hemorrhage claimed his life.
What do we do when we realize someone we've wronged will not forgive us? How do we cope with mistakes we've made that destroy relationships, and even lives? How do we keep them from disabling us spiritually; how do we keep others (including Satan) from using them to disable or discourage us?

Thursday, March 12, 2009 • • Active faith
The past week's emails included two long-time readers who'd cancelled their subscriptions because they disagreed with one sentence in the 357th devotional I'd posted since they joined. Just that quickly, the relationship disappeared after eight years. Earlier, I'd listened to a pastor I deeply admire complain about mortgage bailouts. "Nobody helped me." he started; a hugely discouraging attitude to hear from any believer. Then I read the article in Smithsonian about Christians fighting over the Church of the Nativity, and about how secular Palestinians are trying to fix the problem for us.
So, keyboard in hand, I zinged 'em all.

God never gives up on His children. Whether we're only now discovering our work matters to Him or we've known it for years, here are five principles that help us keep our service in line with His priorities; with His thinking.
