When Bono acknowledged Jesus in the lyrics he wrote for their hit song, he was (perhaps inadvertently) giving voice to a puzzling post-salvation angst that dogs many followers of Jesus. Salvation comes when we know Jesus as Savior, but to find the meaning, fulfillment and contentment our souls long for requires one more step...

Let this sink in for a minute: If you were the only person in the world to accept Jesus Christ as Savior-the only one out of the billions who have lived-Jesus would still have submitted Himself to the humiliation of the Cross. Every other path will leave you dissatisfied, always sure you're missing something. When God made us, it was to have the same outward focus He does; the same need to give and tend He does. That's what Jesus meant when He said "any man who loses his life for My sake will find it." Not sure where to start? Try this...

Ummm, that would be me, as I was about to learn.
Every fall for as long as the old-timers could remember, the construction industry in our tiny New England state practiced the ritual of the mass layoff. As cold weather moved in, and work outside became more difficult, the ranks of the employed dwindled and the ranks of unemployed swelled. Winter is a hard time to be without income: Winds howl and swirl, working their way into the cracks of homes, forcing heating bills up and squeezing grocery budgets out.
