Ten Things to Watch as Workers

In Romans 12:1-2, the Apostle Paul is literally begging followers of Christ to take literally the command to be transformed, to think and act differently than before we knew Christ. Here are ten danger zones for Christians to consider.
This list is useful in analyzing our own lives; not so much for analyzing somebody else. As followers of Jesus Christ, we've agreed to look and act different, to avoid being conformed to this world, and to be transformed by a new way of thinking about life. There's few places more important for us to look and act different than the places where we work. Here are ten areas or actions that can lead us away from Christ, making us look exactly the same as those who don't know Him.
We're more likely to make missteps when we are:
a. looking for security in our careers
b. looking for significance through our careers
c. greedy, envious, covetous-not only of money, but power, influence, comfort
d. isolated
e. dualistic in our thinking-separating our work world from our faith
f. single-minded
g. overworked or experiencing other imbalances in our life
h. convinced people are basically good
i. angry/vengeful/bitter
j. seeking intimacy at work
One Final Note to Ponder:
Workers, including working Christians, are often looking to form bonds in the workplace that replace the bonds they used to have by working alongside their family members in an agrarian society; or the bonds they used to find in fraternal organizations; or the bonds they used to find in the community of believers. Anything we can do to foster those bonds among believers as coworkers is a huge attraction to a culture where loneliness reaches epidemic proportions.
